Brilliant Birthday Best

I tried REALLY hard not to turn this card into a kids birthday card, but alas, I succumbed. Kristina Werner's Eight Color Inspiration Challenge was posted tonight, with the color combo being Brilliant Blue, Pumpkin Pie, Bashful Blue and Whisper White. The Inspirational Image she posted is Gorgeous! It put this idea in my head, but after scrounging thru all my stamps, I just couldn't find a set that worked. (New SU! catalog, WHERE ARE YOU???).

Not sure I'm totally happy with the end result tonight. I might need to revisit this combo tomorrow. However, you should be proud.. notice not once stitch of Chocolate Chip! Horray for me!

Here's how I made it: My card base is a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of Brilliant Blue Cardstock(CS) folded in half. The next layer is Bashful Blue and measures 5 1/4" x 4". The layer on top of that is a 5" x 3 3/4" piece of the Jersey Shore Designer Series Paper (DSP). I stamped the polka dotted patter from the Sweet Shapes stamp set in Pumpkin Pie (using my Stamp-a-ma-Jig) to line up the dots, on a 3 3/4" x 1 1/4" strip of Whisper White (WW) CS. I adhered it to the background layers then added the Pumpkin Pie Photo Corners and Striped Grosgrain Ribbon with snail adhesive. I stamped the sentiment in the bottom corner using White Craft ink. To get the words in a line, versus stacked like they are on the stamp itself, I masked the card then lined up the word(s) I wanted using my Stamp-a-ma-Jig. I sprinkled the White Embossing Powder (EP) and heated to set. I always find when working with White EP, that using the Embossing Buddy is a must, otherwise you end up with little flecks of white all over your project.

I stamped the main car image first on a 2 3/4" x 2 1/4" Whisper White square in Pumpkin Pie, then again on a scrap piece of WW CS in Brilliant Blue. I cut the blue car out, and adhered overtop the Pumpkin car with Dimensionals. I matted the image on a 3" x 2 1/2" Bashful Blue rectangle, then paper pierced the border. I adhered the matted image to the card front using Dimensionals, then added the 'Exhaust' Buttons using Glue Dots.

Who wouldn't want to stamp for a great cause? I know I do, and that's what this card is for.... well, that and my niece's first birthday party. This is my card for her SOA#4 - a layout challenge from Julie Tilman's MoJo Monday sketch library. My nieces 1st Birthday Party is tomorrow, and I wanted to put together a card for her - this sketch worked perfectly. These are some pretty girlie colors.. but I liked them...

How I made it: I started by stamping the cake twice - once on a scrap piece of Whisper White, once on a 2 1/4" x 2 3/4" piece of Whisper White. I used chocolate Chip craft ink, sprinkled Clear Embossing powder and heated to set on both - cause lets face it .. its LATE here and i need all the help i can get to color inside the lines!! I used blender pens and Classic inks to color in my cakes, cut one out and adhered for dimension after I paper pierced around the border. I matted the cake on a barely-there piece of Certainly Celery and Almost Amethyst cardstock, then all of it to a scalloped square from my new Nestabilities dies (YEA!! they finally arrived!!) and finally, added some glitter Stickles to the icing.
The next layer is 3" x 2 3/4" piece of Certainly Celery cardstock, stamped with the flower in Versamark, then.. you guessed it.. clear embossing powder, heated to set. The back layer is a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Almost Amethyst run thru my cuttlebug. After adhering those two layers together, I tied Certainly Celery wide grosgrain ribbon around those layers, then the hole thing is adhered to a half-folded piece of 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of Purely Pomegranate. I added the sentiment, punched out with the Word Window punch, and adhered using dimensionals. And Voila! Fit for a Princess, no?

Truckload of Fun

Thursday's challenge on Splitcoast was a 'Ways to use it' challenge, featuring eyelets. The idea was to use eyelets in a unique way, other than just as an embellishment. Check out this adorable sample that the moderator used as an example. Man - are those owls stinkin' cute! Anyhoo (pun intened), here's what I came up with. Its not exactly way out of the box, but I thought it was kinda cute, and allowed me to use this great retired stamp set. Anyway - on to the details..

Here's how I built it:

I started by stamping my little truck on a peice of Kraft cardstock using Chocolate Chip craft ink, I sprinkled it with clear embossing powder, and heated to set. I then re-stamped the truck on Always Artichoke cardstock with coordinating ink, cut out the truck's 'dumper', and assembled overtop the embossed image using dimensionals. I set the jumbo eyelets as the wheels using my crop-a-dile, and stamped the sentiment at the top. I paper peirced the top and bottom of the image.

Next, I stamped the Pumpkin Pie 4 1/4" x 2 1/2" peice of cardstock with the Canvas background stamp, using Pumpkin Pie ink. On the bottom 4 1/4" x 1 1/2"chocolate strip, I randomly stamped the 'Beep' stamp, again with the Chocolate Chip Craft Ink, and embossed it with clear embossing powder. I adhered the two strips together and wraped a 5 " peice of both the Chocolate Chip Wide and 1/4" Artichoke Narrow Grosgrain Ribbon to hide the seems. I then attached these peices to my card base which was a 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" peice of cardstock, folded in half, and finally, added the main truck image using dimensionals.

Outta This World Color Combo

Every week, Splitcoast Stampers puts out some great color challenges. This week's challenge , was no exception. The color combo was to be: Real Red... ok...
Night of Navy... no prob... Glorious Green.. EEEK!

So off I went to unwrap the plastic off another neglected Bold Bright ink pad.
This was the card I came up with.

How I built it: I started by stamping the rocket ship image on a 2 1/2" square piece of whisper white cardstock, using Basic Black Craft ink, then sprinkled with clear embossing powder and heated.

I colored the image in with my blender pens, and sponged around the image for a bit of pop.

I ran the Sweet stars wheel over the Night of Navy strip, with the navy classic ink, and added the Real Red wide grosgrain ribbon. I adhered the small strip of Glorious Green, and then paper pierced - then adhered that to the Real Red backdrop using dimensionals. I punched out the stars with my Small Star punch, and added the 1/4" punched out circles to the centres, and added those to my card with dimensionals as well. I then stuck the whole lot to my card base - a 11" x 4 1/4" piece of confetti white cardstock, folded in half.
